Jerseys, jerseys, jerseys!

Hey everyone,

Just a quick note that we’re extending the deadline for our extra jersey order since, apparently, a bunch of you don’t read your emails.  :p  Send in your orders by email ASAP. We will accept cash (and cheques if we like you) at the scorekeeper’s table next Sunday.  More details below:

Our sponsor, One-Apparel, has generously extended our super deal on VIU jerseys!  Get an extra jersey (or two or three) of any colour and any size!  Collect the whole set!  Wear them to job interviews!  Weddings!  First dates!  A super low price of $15 each!

Email us with the following info:

your name, jersey size(s), quantity, and jersey colour(s) – choose from white, blue, navy blue, black, forest green, lime green, red, yellow, orange, burgundy, and purple

The jerseys should be ready a week after we send in the order.

Don’t forget that we also have fancy Indoor discs for sale!  $10 each!  Or go for the deal at two for $20!  Find them at the scorekeeper’s table at every game!

Thanks!

Scheduling mix-up and Subs list

Howdy folks – just a short message from the Site administrator (or Webmistress, as the Jeremys like to call me. Personally, I prefer AllKnowingWebGuru, but no need to state the obvious)

Oops! Schedule Mishap…

Apologies for the Scheduling mix-up last week due to a website glitch. We accidentally had last season’s schedule up for a few days, which didn’t have some of the changes we made to it this year.  However, we didn’t realize some of you were checking your game schedule early on in the week.  Not to worry, these kinds of technical glitches should be far and few in between.  There should be NO MORE SCHEDULE CHANGES for the remainder of the season unless the Jeremys inform you otherwise.  But you can always double-check the day before to ensure you’ve got the right time.

How about a Subs list?

A mailing list has been set up for those wanting to SUB for other games!  If your team is short on people, you can send an email to all the subs to see who might be able to sub.  This may work well for any last minute shortages too, especially since many of us are constantly connected via email these days. Keep in mind that you should be looking for a player similar to your level, so make sure to specify what skill level you are.  This is to ensure we keep our hat teams as even as possible.

If you’re interested, contact the Jeremys with your name requesting to be on the Subs list.

By the way, we’ve been updating our Scores and Standings after games each week, so be sure to keep tabs on how your team is doing!

Jerseys, Start Times, and Team Names!

Hey all,

Hope you all enjoyed your first games of the 2012 season last week!  A couple of things from our first day of games:

Where and when to sub

Please sub in the “sub box” (basically on either side of the scorekeeper’s table).  What works best is for one player of each gender to be ready to go in the sub box.  The rest of the team can take a breather on the bench (ie: sit down).  This also helps us scorekeepers to see the play in the endzone.  If we can’t see what’s going on because everyone’s standing up, we might just not award you that point.

Make sure you sub early and often.  Staying out there too long for too long a shift just annoys your teammates.  Oh, and sub on offence.  Your team will thank you.

In or out?

The playing surface for Indoor is marked by the thick black line around the court.  The front of the endzone is marked by a blue line.  If your foot is on or over the line, you are not in.  A lot of points were missed last Sunday by players not realizing that they were already OB when they caught the disc.  And if you are OB, make sure you step inbounds before you catch the disc.

Timeouts

There is one 90 second timeout per team.  Timeouts cannot be called within the last five minutes of the game (check out the remaining time on the score clock).  If you call timeout during the last five minutes, it’s a turnover.  Use your timeout wisely.

Jerseys

Team colours have been decided via random draw and your jerseys have been printed, courtesy of One-Apparel.com!  They will be available at the start of each game this Sunday at the scorekeeper’s table.  The UPDATED team colours are as follows:

Team 1: Red, Team 2: White, Team 3: Yellow, Team 4: Orange

Team 5: Forest Green, Team 6: Black, Team 7: Purple, Team 8: Blue

Start times

We have confirmed with the JCC that our start times are at 15 minutes past the hour (2:15pm, 3:15pm, and so on).  Please remember that we do not run on Ultimate Time.  Show up early and warm up.  The longer it takes to get started, the shorter your game will be.

Team names

Please come up with a team name!  The more imaginative the better.  This year’s default team name (should you not come up with one awesome enough based on our high standards) is Team Meadow Muffin, aka the Fighting Meadow Muffins! Please discuss amongst yourselves and have your team names ready by the third week.  We sent you all your team emails.  Use them!

Discs

In case you weren’t listening to us last week, we have Indoor discs for sale!  One for $10; two for $20!  Buy them quick as supplies are limited!  Find them for sale at the scorekeeper’s table!

That’s all for now.  See you this Sunday!

Players, Team, and Schedule!

Hi all,

Hope everyone’s excited about the start of Vancouver Indoor Ultimate’s 6th season this coming Sunday!  We sure are.

Unfortunately, because planning for the 2012 season started a bit later this year, we weren’t able to spread out all the juicy info this email provides.  You’re getting it all at once.  Sorry.

PLAYERS

Registration is now full!  Make sure you’re on our list of Registered Players.

Unfortunately, wait-listed players (your names are shaded in grey) will have to wait for registered players to drop out before officially joining but feel free to show up to the first games to check out the action and maybe even sub for teams!  Please note that the VUL will coordinate the refunds for wait-listed players.  Please also note that no refunds will be given to registered players once the season has started.

TEAMS

Teams for the 2012 season have been posted over at the Teams page on our website.  Please make sure that you’re on the same team as your partner if you signed up with one.  Let us know if that’s not the case.  We’ve done our best to get the teams as even as possible based on everyone’s skill levels, but please keep in mind that we might make some small changes after the first week or two of play if we see some extremely lop-sided games.

SCHEDULE

The schedule has been posted on the Schedule page of our website.  Changes should be few and far between and we’ll always send out an email but please make sure to check the schedule before every game to see when your game is.

ULTIMATE TIME

Vancouver Indoor Ultimate does NOT run on Ultimate Time.  We pay for the gym by the hour so the later you are, the shorter your game will be.  Arrive early to check-in, warm up, and watch the earlier games.

JCC PARKING & GYM

The Jewish Community Centre’s parking lot is a pay parking lot.  Don’t blame us if you get a ticket.  There are free parking spots around the neighbourhood though if you look around.  You might have to get buzzed in at the JCC’s entrance.  Tell them you’re here for “ultimate frisbee at the gym”.  You’ll also have to get buzzed into the gym at the sports counter.  Safety first!  Bzzzz!

CHECK-IN

Please come find us at the scorekeeper’s table to check-in.  You HAVE to check in before you play.  If you don’t plan on showing up for the first few games, please email us to let us know if you haven’t already.

RULES

There are a couple of Indoor-specific rules.  Some are similar to Turf rules (we came first!).  Otherwise, we generally follow the UPA’s 11th edition rules.  These rules are available in greater detail on the Rules page of our website.

•    No footblocks.  Tempting but dangerous.

•    Five players from each team on the court at one time.  Minimum of two women.

•    No pull after a point.  After you score, put the disc down.  Opposing team takes possession of the disc and begins play from there.

•    Stall counts to seven (7).

•    Sub on the fly within the designated sub box.  (Hint: It’s always best to sub when your team is on offence.)

•    Half-court rules apply.  You can only score with throws from the offensive half of the court.  (Hint: It’s always helpful for your team to yell out “half-court” if you catch a throw from the defensive half of the court.  If you put the disc down thinking you’ve scored, it’s a turnover.)

JERSEYS

As you know, this year we’re getting team jerseys supplied by our sponsors.  However, for the first week or two when we’re without the jerseys, please check out the Schedule to see if you’re HOME or AWAY.  HOME teams wear light.  AWAY teams wear dark.  If you’re unsure of which colour to bring, bring both.

SPONSORS

We’re happy to welcome back our two official sponsors, One Apparel and Jointworks Chiropractic, to Vancouver Indoor Ultimate for 2012.  You’ll hear more from them later.  But for now, check out their awesome websites!  Of course, our biggest supporter this year is the Vancouver Ultimate League who has graciously taken over Vancouver Indoor Ultimate’s bill payments, among other administrative tasks.  No more annoying 2am creditor phone calls on my cellphone!

That’s pretty much it.  Only four more days till the start of the first game of VIU 2012!
